Bishop Fares Tams: Religious institutions have an important role in preventing religious extremism

AhlulBayt News Agency: The judicial vicar general of the Diocese of Mosul and its Syriac Catholic dependencies, and professor of law at the Pontifical Institute for Oriental Studies in Rome, Bishop Dr. Fares Tams, stressed that religious institutions have an important role in preventing religious extremism, during his participation in the workshop organized by the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) shrine, represented by the Iraqi Center for documentation of extremist crimes in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on the role of religious institutions in preventing and combating violent extremism.

"We gathered at the Al-Abbas's (p) shrine on the Ansari Hall for dialogue and deliberation on the role of religious institutions to prevent and combat violent religious extremism, because the topic is sensitive and realistic and has a direct impact on our lives,"he said.

"The homeland is for everyone and for all people, regardless of their affiliations and differences, whether geographical, religious or ideological, and everyone has the right to express their opinions and beliefs, whatever and wherever they are,"he added.

"The clergy decided in this place to devote themselves to the service of man, his renaissance and his building, so that he would be free, despite the difference in his rituals or language, and everyone must be equal before the regulations and laws,"the Bishop said.
