North Carolina to host its first Muslim Festival

The North Carolina Muslim Festival will open on April 29 after more than a year of preparations, bringing hundreds of people together to build bridges with community members.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The North Carolina Muslim Festival will open on April 29 after more than a year of preparations, bringing hundreds of people together to build bridges with community members.

Described as a public family-oriented event, the festival will be open to the public and will feature halal food vendors, a kids’ zone, local vendors and entertainment.

“It’s mostly an opportunity for the community at large to come together whether Muslim or non-Muslim and enjoy what Greensboro has to offer,” said Robyn Saleem-Abdusamad, one of the organizers and the event director, News & Record reported.

“It will also be an opportunity to meet their Muslim neighbors.”

Saleem-Abdusamad is the events director of the inaugural North Carolina Muslim Festival which will take place on Saturday, April 29 at 10 am in downtown Greensboro’s Center City Park.

Her non-profit, Self-Help Information Network and Exchange, which teaches youth life skills, is the sponsor of the event.

Saleem-Abdusamad and her organizing committee have been planning for the festival since September. Hosting Muslim and non-Muslim vendors, she hopes that the event will grow in future years.

“We really want to bring neighbors together,” Saleem-Abdusamad said.

Similar events usually bring people together, sharing food and conversation.

Last December, the Islamic center of Cambridge, Ontario, invited neighbors for a fun night of games, gifts, prizes and more in the annual Family Fun Night.

Also in Greater Lansing, the Islamic center hosted Salaam Peace Festival to bring different cultures together through exhibits and food.
