(AhlulBayt News Agency) - For the third time in the last 72 hours, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has fended off a large assault by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern part of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
ISIS began their assault on Saturday by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the town of Al-Jalaa, which is located just west of Albukamal city.
However, despite the intensity of the IS assault, they were unable to penetrate the Syrian Army’s lines at Al-Jalaa, resulting in their eventual retreat from the town.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army killed at least ten IS terrorists, while also destroying two armored vehicles that were used to attack their positions.
Daesh (ISIS) has recently stepped up their attacks in the Deir Ezzor Governorate in order to take advantage of the Syrian Army’s weak defenses in western Albukamal.
