(AhlulBayt News Agency) - As the battle of retaking Mosul by the Iraqi army is nearing, ISIS is seemingly expecting to face a last defeat in Iraq as it has reportedly exploded two oil wells in southern Mosul and rigged many others with explosives.
Saleh al-Jabouri, the Mayor of Qayyarah district in the south of Mosul, said that the militant group exploded on Sunday two oil wells in Najma oil field in southern Mosul and prepared others for explosion.
ISIS militants are certain about their defeat in Iraq and they will soon lose Mosul, Jabouri said.
Najma oil fields in southern Mosul contains 89 oil wells from which the terrorist group is extracting crude oil and exporting it to other areas in Iraq and Syria.
Mosul, the second largest Iraqi city, fell to the ISIS group in June 2014 after the fall of the Iraqi army in the north. However, the major battle of retaking the city from the group by the Iraqi army is expected to begin by the end of October.
