The First Sermon
In the first sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, commemorated the birth anniversary of Az-Zahraa, praising her greatness in all the fields of life, starting with motherhood to her father. He also said that not only she held all the love and affection for the Messenger (p.), but she also played a major role in preserving and spreading the Message. She was also, along with her husband, a role model in charity, giving and doing good deeds, in joining between worship, as she spent her nights praying, and in being an example in giving, loving, caring and teaching the fellow believers.
Az-Zahraa (a.s.) was also a role model in shouldering her responsibilities as a wife and mother. She never complained of the hardships and poverty her family endured, and she brought up her children to become pious believers, since their early childhood.
Thus, to love Az-Zahraa, it is not enough to hang her picture on the wall, rather one should proclaim loyalty to her and model after her. It is true that we cannot reach her level in excellence, but we should keep trying and progressing.
The Sayyed then turned to our modern life to show how big the gap between our practice and hers is. He cited the example of how she used to treat her servant as one of the house members and how we treat our servants now.
Loving Az-Zahraa, the Sayyed concluded, can be one of the means to correct many of our faults and to make us follow the right path, since she provided an example of what it means to be a person totally dedicated to the Message of obeying, trusting and loving Allah.
The second sermon
In the second sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, talked about Lebanon. In the beginning, he praised the role of the security forces and the people in executing the security plan and hoped that it covers all the Lebanese regions. He also called for finding an economic plan besides the security one that holds responsible all those who have exploited the state as a milking cow, which made the debt reach an incredible level.
He called on all the officials not to resolve the economic problem by giving the poor people some sedatives. They should draw an integrated plan that takes into account the need of all the social and productive classes and that gives priority to the interests of the poor and deprived when there is a clash of interests.
The Sayyed said that he hoped that the Parliament would have reached such a plan, instead of going back to sub-committees that might be a means of burying it. The Sayyed added that such major issues should not be the subject of political struggles and calculations between the various parties.
The whole truth should be presented to the Lebanese people who will surely accept certain hardships if they feel that this is necessary for the future of the country.
In Syria, the Sayyed said that although it is obvious and natural that the major powers want to prolong the conflict, the Arab and Muslim states should not follow suit and halt their efforts to stop the blood-shedding in Syria.
In Palestine, the Sayyed criticized the Arab and Muslim peoples and states for being indifferent towards the attempts of the Zionists to storm into Al-Aqsa mosque.
The Sayyed reminded the Muslims that all forms of betting is haram, especially now that the football world cup is close.
