(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran places emphasis on Afghanistan’s independence and national sovereignty and regards the ways to localize security based on enhanced economic cooperation in the region and strengthening national economy as a secure strategy to improve the situation in this country, said Salehi in an address to the fifth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-V) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Monday.
Tajikistan is hosting the two-day RECCA-V gathering, attended by presidents of Afghanistan's neighboring countries as well as 40 foreign ministers and representatives of 33 international bodies.
Salehi also said Iran has spared no effort in promoting stability in Afghanistan and will diligently move toward the improvement of progress in that country.
The top Iranian diplomat added that Afghanistan’s stability, security and sustainable development have great significance for Iran, noting that the Iranian government has completely fulfilled its commitments on the reconstruction of the war-battered country in line with Iran’s policies of good neighborliness.
The minister further expressed Tehran’s support for international participation in Afghanistan’s economic development.
The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led foreign forces in the country.
The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
