(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The National Institute of Health (NIH) commissioned an analysis which indicates a 10 percentage point gap between African-American and white scientists which fails to be related to education or experience.
NIH director Francis Colin said, "The results of this study are disturbing and disheartening, and we are committed to taking action".
The study analyzed submissions for NIH grant applications by some 40,069 investigators from 2000-2006.
The study revealed that out of every 100 grant applications sent to NIH, "30 grants from white applicants were funded, compared to 20 grants for black applicants."
Applications pass a peer-review that in most cases picks out roughly half of the applications which make it to the next peer-review.
