Veteran reporter and news writer Rageh Omaar will be the presenter of a documentary entitled “The Life of Muhammad (PBUH)”, which is a Crescent Films production for the state-run BBC Two.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The documentary describes the details of the Prophet's life from his early days preaching Islam in Mecca, his struggles, and the immigration to Medina to the founding of the first Islamic constitution.

Omaar intends to focus on the Prophet Muhammad's military and political accomplishments, his death, and his legacy, Variety reported.

“For some people in the UK, Muhammad is just a name,” said Aaqil Ahmed, who is the BBC's commissioning editor for religion and the head of the network's religion & ethics department.

“I hope this series will go some way to explaining who he was, how he lived, what his prophetic message was, and how all of this compares to his legacy today,” he added.

The three-part series, which was shot in Saudi Arabia, al-Quds (Jerusalem), Turkey, Syria, the US, the UK, and Jordan, features comments by some of the world's leading academics and commentators on Islam.

The religious documentary will also cover topics such as Islam in today's world as well as Islam's attitudes toward money, charity, women, social equality, religious tolerance, war, and conflict.

Out of respect for Islamic belief, the film will not show any images of the Prophet.

A number of films have been made on the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), such as The Message, which was made by the renowned Arab-American filmmaker Moustafa Akkad in 1976.
