“The Islamic Revolution [of Iran] led by Imam Khomeini and inspired by the Prophet [Mohammad]'s demeanor laid the foundation for an Islamic establishment,” the parliamentarian said.
“Iran's religious democracy which is based on popular vote and is in line with Islamic ideals takes it upon itself to fight tyranny and oppression, be it caused by the US, Zionists, [or others,] and to help the oppressed people, combat dictatorship and help foster spiritual development in different societies,” the parliament speaker underlined.
He then touched upon Washington's double standards vis-à-vis the developments in Egypt.
Larijani said the White House claims to be supporting the Egyptian people and favoring change, and at the same time contacts regional monarchs to maintain the old structure.
Addressing US officials, Larijani said, “If you are after real democracy, leave the decisions to the people of Egypt. Then they will express their hatred of the US.”
