The typical British convert became a Muslim at age 27 and, according to the survey, was not motivated to convert by marriage. 55% of converts, however, were married to a born Muslim, and 12% were married to another convert.
The study found that the vast majority of women converts adopted the hijab (headscarf) upon conversion. Holy Quran and other religious Books were cited as the primary influence upon converts, followed by Muslim friends and the Internet.
