“I know for getting closer to God, it is necessary to quit my profession and I have made a determined resolution to do this,” Fatima Fatalieva told Azerbaijan's Trend news agency after returning from the shrine city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.
"Visiting Mashhad was one of my greatest dreams. Now they call me 'Mashhadi Khanim'… I feel very happy,” said the former popular dancer.
Fatalieva also explained how she asked God in her prayers to help her give up dancing.
“This wish of mine might raise surprise. However, I have asked God to open a new door for me not to engage in dancing again,” she said
Fatalieva expressed hope that other Azeris would get the chance to visit Imam Reza's holy shrine and reach perfect belief in God.
