Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani pointed to Israel's defeat and failure in its wars against the Lebanese Hezbollah in 2006 and the Palestinian resistant group Hamas during the 22-day onslaught on the Gaza Strip, and said these developments signify that Israel is too weak to threaten Iran.
"They weren't able to even defeat Hezbollah and Hamas, which are just manifestations of (a part of) our power, therefore, they (Israelis) are not in a position to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran," Miqani stated.
The Iranian commander further pointed to the frequent wargames conducted by the Israeli regime, and stated that the Zionist regime seeks to maintain its military preparedness and also wage psychological war through such military moves.
Speculations that Israel could bomb Iran mounted after a big Israeli air drill in 2008. In the first week of June 2008, 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighters reportedly took part in an exercise over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece, which was interpreted as a dress rehearsal for a possible attack on Iran's nuclear installations.
Meantime, a recent study by the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), a prestigious American think tank, has found that a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities "is unlikely" to delay the country's program.
The ISIS study also cautioned that an attack against Iran would backfire by compelling the country to acquire nuclear weaponry.
Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen also recently warned in Tel Aviv of the unexpected consequences of an Israeli attack on Iran, just as he did during the days of the (George W) Bush administration.
Iran has warned that it would target Israel and its worldwide interests in case it comes under attack by the Tel Aviv.
The United States has always stressed that military action is a main option for the White House to deter Iran's progress in the field of nuclear technology.
