In an exclusive interview with IRNA on the forthcoming visit of US President to India, Asif Mohammad Khan, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Delhi said that there is no change is US hegemonic policies. Obama is following the path of his predecessor, George Bush.
Referring to Obama’s speech in June 2009 in Cairo, which was designed to improve US relations with the Muslim world, Asif said: “neither Obama expressed the regrets nor apologised for the illegal occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq. Moveover, by supporting Israel’s aggression over oppressed Palestinians, he (Obama) is following the Bush path in Palestine”.
“His speech was good for listening, but Muslims still are waiting for action to match his words”, said Indian leader. There must be a fundamental change in US policy beginning from a halt to complete support for Israeli aggression on Palestinians, to stop making false propaganda against Islamic Republic of Iran.
Asking US government to correct its behaviour, Asif said, “The whole world has seen that the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq on a big lie. Now it is lying about Iran also. The objectives were to capture the resources of these countries, especially oil wells and to establish US military hegemony in the region, he added.
“That’s why not only Indian Muslims, but peace loving people of the country, are not happy about Obama’s visit because they want to see big changes in US policies towards Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran”, Indian leader concluded.
Barrack Obama would be travelling to India from November 6 to 9, during which he would visit Mumbai and New Delhi and hold a series of public and official meetings.
It is to be noted that Indian Muslims led by the Left parties and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) had held a rally in the Capital during Obama’s predecessor, George Bush’s visit in March 2006 in protest against the US war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then, the Left, with its strength of 61 MPs in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) alone, was an ally of the Manmohan Singh government.
