Suspected Taliban militants destroyed the government-run girls' middle school late on Thursday by detonating explosives in the Sipah area of Baratehsil in the Khyber tribal region.
The explosion ripped through the 6-room school, leveling the building. There were no casualties because the school was empty at the time, local officials said.
Taliban militants have banned female education in the northwest Pakistan valley of Swat, depriving more than 40,000 girls of schooling.
In the last several years, the Taliban have destroyed hundred of schools, especially in the areas of Swat Valley and the North-West Frontier Province as part of their activities.
The Taliban warn parents against sending their daughters to school, saying female education is “un-Islamic.”
The militants have destroyed nearly 200 schools in the Swat Valley alone during a violent two-year campaign by Tehrik-e Taliban's Swat chief Maulana Fazlullah.
