Three car bombs went off on Tuesday in the city of Kut, leaving unspecified number of casualties, a police source said.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), WASSIT, Iraq -- Three car bombs went off on Tuesday in the city of Kut, leaving unspecified number of casualties, a police source said.

“Three explosions rattled central Kut on Tuesday (Aug. 3) leaving a number of casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Casualties from the car bomb explosion that occurred on Tuesday in central Kut left three dead and 56 wounded, a medical source said.

“The final toll of the car bomb explosion in central Kut reached three dead and 56 wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

This is the first car bomb attack in Kut since 2003, while al-Suweira district, north of Kut, witnessed last May 11, a booby-trapped car blast, which killed nine citizens and injured 71.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
