Holy Qom, Iran -- The Quranic activities office of the University of Qom plans to set up specialized Quranic centers and commissions.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), Holy Qom, Iran -- This is according to head of the office Mohamamd Ali Ostadesh who said that the centers would be for students while the commissions would be special for professors.

The centers would promote interdisciplinary Quranic research studies, he noted.

There will be five centers specializing in interdisciplinary Quranic research. They are titled: Quran and law, Quran and natural sciences, Quran and literature, Quran and art, and Quran and philosophy.

Mr. Ostadesh said that the purpose of establishing the centers and commissions is producing religious-based knowledge, which is among the main objectives of the country’s 5th development plan.

He referred to the supreme leader’s idea on humanities and said, “As the supreme leader has said, the humanities that is taught in our universities is a translation of western humanities which is based on a materialistic worldview, whereas we should seek the foundations of human sciences in the Quran.”

He said that the move by the University of Qom is just the first step and expressed hope other universities in the country would also take part in the initiative.
