AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): National Public Radio (NPR), in a report referring to the increase in public dissatisfaction with America's two-party political system, announced that many voters no longer consider the current structure of Republicans and Democrats as meeting their demands and support fundamental reforms in the electoral system.
According to Pew Research Center data, nearly 70 percent of Americans have said they would like to have at least somewhat more political options beyond the two main parties to choose from.
This dissatisfaction has increased at a time when both main parties face negative views from a significant portion of the public.
A new poll conducted with the participation of one thousand people also shows that 50 percent of voters support a proportional representation system, where instead of one candidate winning in each district, multiple representatives are elected based on the parties' share of votes. About a quarter oppose this proposal, and one-third have not yet made a clear decision about it.
Lee Drutman, a researcher at the New America think tank, says that the level of support for the principles of proportional representation has even surprised him.
Importantly, this support is not limited to the left; 60 percent of Trump voters who expressed an opinion on this system also supported it.
According to Jocelyn Kiley of the Pew Center, American voters are in a long period of dissatisfaction with the country's politics and political structure, and readiness for reform has increased.
According to NPR, this collection of data shows that dissatisfaction with the political monopoly of Republicans and Democrats is becoming a demand for changing America's political structure, although a large part of society is still not sufficiently familiar with the alternatives.
