According to RTE news, three men and two women were arrested in the southern Ireland cities of Waterford and Tramore and another man and woman at Ballincollig, near Cork city. A number of searches were also said to have taken place. Those in custody ranged in age between mid-29s to late 40s and were reported to be originally from Morocco and Yemen, but it was understood they all have refugee status. A police spokesman said the operation was part of an investigation into a conspiracy to murder an individual in another jurisdiction. The Irish Gardaí said it was working closely with police forces in a number of other European countries and in the US. The operation was carried out on Tuesday morning and involved members of the Garda National Support Services and the Special Detective Unit. All are being detained under section 50 of the country’s Criminal Justice Act, which allows police to question suspects for up to a week.
