Ogun State Muslim Council Unveils Roadmap to Strengthen Institutional Standing, Religious Role

Nigeria’s Ogun State Muslim Council has approved a 30-year strategic roadmap aimed at institutional strengthening, long-term planning, sustainable governance, and greater participation by Islamic organizations across the state.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) in Nigeria has approved a 30-year strategic roadmap designed to enhance the standing of Islam and transform the council into a globally benchmarked Islamic institution through long-term planning and structural reform.

The decision was taken during a consultative meeting held at the Oloowo Palace in Abeokuta, attended by more than 200 delegates from across the state, along with representatives of over 30 Islamic organizations from different parts of the country.

The gathering was chaired by the president-general of the Ogun State Muslim Council, who, in his keynote address, described the meeting as an opportunity to review the council’s three decades of performance and to chart a strategic future. He called for a thorough assessment of the document drafted to optimize the council’s structures and institutional capacity.

Oba Matemi-Lola, referring to recurring grievances over the marginalization of Muslims in the state, reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the issue. He urged Muslims to avoid emotional reactions, strengthen unity, and make purposeful use of the council’s institutional capacity.

Presenters of the strategic document said the roadmap would be implemented through five-year plans and short-term timelines, with the goal of improving governance, ensuring financial sustainability, and expanding the social role of the Ogun State Muslim Council both within and beyond the state.
