Al-Azhar vows cooperation to boost solidarity of Islamic denominations

The council of senior scholars of al-Azhar University has vowed that the academy will continue cooperation to boost unity among Muslim clerics through meetings and dialogue.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The council of senior scholars of al-Azhar University has vowed that the academy will continue cooperation to boost unity among Muslim clerics through meetings and dialogue.

Abbas Shauman, the Secretary General of al-Azhar council of senior scholars made the remarks in reaction to claims targeting clerics from the prestigious academy condemning constant efforts to divide Shia and Sunni communities.

He stressed in a post on his social media that there is difference between respecting other beliefs and embracing them.

Shauman emphasized,” Al-Azhar and its respectable scholars ignore such extremist voices that seek neither unity nor benefit for the Islamic nation.”

He vowed that al-Azhar will continue its mission to cooperate with those loyal to Islam in order to unify the Muslim clerics and convene them from different denominations to conduct dialogue and boost solidarity among themselves.

The senior scholar added,” About those unimportant people who pursue undermining relations between Shias and Sunnis, I must say that the plots and hostile rhetoric of those who intend to sow sedition with their fake claims are now revealed to all.”

In a related response, the scientific institute of Emam Khoei in the holy city of Najaf has issued a statement stressing that al-Azhar, committed to its moderate approach and scientific independence, will remain the main pillar of Islamic activities and a key contributor to the objectives of Islamic nation.

The statement reiterated the academy’s respect among Islamic denominations and the constant efforts to strengthen the shared approaches under the flag of Islam.
