Delhi Protesters Condemn continued Gaza Siege, Demand Global Action

Hundreds of students, activists, academics, and concerned citizens gathered at Delhi’s iconic Jantar Mantar on Tuesday in a strong display of solidarity with the Palestinian people, especially those suffering in Gaza under Israeli aggression.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The protest, titled “Delhi Rises for Palestine: Gaza Under Siege, Humanity Under Trial,” was organized by the group Friends of Palestine and drew widespread participation from across the capital.

Chanting slogans like “Resist Occupation, Resist Genocide” and holding placards reading “Stop Bombing Gaza,” “End the Blockade,” and “Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere,” demonstrators denounced what they called a genocide and condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war.

Speakers from student unions, civil society groups, and academic institutions highlighted the immense destruction, humanitarian crisis, and systemic violence inflicted on Palestinians. They urged the Indian government and the international community to break their silence and act decisively.

Abdul Hafeez, National President of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), called the siege on Gaza “a crime against humanity.” He said, “As bombs fall and children starve, the world watches silently. We urge India to fulfill its moral duty and demand an immediate end to Israel’s aggression. This is about the soul of humanity.”

Nitish Kumar, President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), said, “What we are witnessing in Gaza is not a conflict — it’s apartheid and genocide. Our solidarity must be unconditional. Indian youth stand firmly with the Palestinian struggle for justice.”

Saleem Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind warned against normalizing state-sponsored violence, stating, “The silence of democratic nations on Gaza’s genocide is terrifying. This is a test of our collective conscience.”

Prominent academic and activist Prof. Nandita Narain described the situation as a “humanitarian emergency” and said, “Collective punishment of an entire population is a war crime. The Indian government must not enable genocide through silence.”

SQR Ilyas, General Secretary of the Welfare Party of India, added, “History will remember not just the crimes of the aggressors, but also the silence of the so-called civilized world. We call on India to cut diplomatic ties with Israel until the siege ends.”

Protesters issued three core demands:

  1. An immediate ceasefire and halt to all military assaults on Gaza;
  2. Lifting of the illegal blockade and opening humanitarian corridors;
  3. Global accountability for Israel’s war crimes and support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Organizers stressed that this protest was not a one-time event, but part of a growing and ongoing resistance movement across Indian campuses and civil society spaces.
