AhlulBayt News Agency - Political bureau member of Hamas Khalil al-Hayya said Saturday evening negotiations between Hamas and Fatah movements culminated in an agreement to form a new unity government.
Speaking in an interview with al-Aqsa TV Channel al-Hayya said steps forward have been made as regards national reconciliation.
He stressed the importance of national partnership in propping up reconciliation on the ground.
He further called for the need to restructure the Palestine Liberation Organization, work out the salary crisis for Gaza workers, and activate the Palestinian Legislative Council.
Al-Hayya also called on Palestinians to combine forces in order to back up anti-occupation activism and face up to the Israeli occupation in the underway Jerusalem Intifada.
As regards Hamas stopovers in Cairo, al-Hayya said they are signs of the strong bilateral bonds between the two peoples.
He reiterated Hamas’ commitment to protect the borders with Egypt, urging the Egyptian parties to work on lifting the Israeli siege on Gaza and open the Rafah crossing before stranded Palestinians.
He spoke out against the assassination of the Egyptian prosecutor general Hesham Barakat wishing Egyptians peace and economic prosperity.
