AhlulBayt News Agency - During the afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army’s 33rd Brigade & 47th Brigade of the 11th Division managed to recapture 3 checkpoints near Al-Mughayr (Northern Hama) along with the sawmills east of the village. This move comes as government soldiers also recaptured the strategic hill of Tall Al-Sakhar near Al-Mughayr earlier today.
Thus, today’s government counter-offensive has fully reversed and denied the gains which Islamist rebels made yesterday in the northern countryside of Hama province. At least 20 rebel fighters and 4 rebel tanks were lost during the battle. Meanwhile, the death toll amongst government troops from the skirmishes remains undisclosed for now.
Contrary to elsewhere in Syria, the governorate of Hama has remained largely static since rebel factions captured the town of Morek 5 months ago. However, increased clashes across northern Hama indicate that the province could very well witness renewed warfare between Islamist rebels and government forces in the near future.
