Syrian Army makes significant progress in strategic village of Kabani

Following the capture of Jabal Zuwayqat, the Syrian Armed Forces would advance to the nearby village of Zuwayqat, where they were engaged by a large contingent of Jabhat Al-Nusra and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham fighters at the southeastern flank.

AhlulBayt News Agency - On Tuesday morning in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade (commandos) of the Republican Guard – backed by the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), the National Defense Forces (NDF), the 48th Special Forces Regiment, and the Syrian Marines – imposed full control over Jabal Zuwayqat after a violent battle with Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), the Free Syrian Army (FSA), and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies would capture Zuwayqat after a short battle with the extremist rebels during the wee hours on Tuesday morning; this recent advance has now positioned them at the southern outskirts of Kabani.

Despite capturing Zuwayqat and Jabal Zuwayqat, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies refrained from launching the final assault on Kabani due to low visibility.

Kabani is strategically located on the border of the Idlib Governorate in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains); it is one of the highest points inside the Latakia Governorate’s northeastern countryside.
