19 Israeli intelligence officers broke into the holy al-Aqsa Mosque at the same time as police troops and special units were deployed around the site.
Nine settlers broke into the al-Aqsa via the Maghareba Gate and roamed its plazas in the presence of Israeli policemen.
Muslim worshipers kept, meanwhile, chanting Allah the Greatest in protest at the sacrilegious break-in.
