4- In Afghanistan's Takhar province, west of Badakahshan, at least 12 students at a girls' school were killed in a stampede as they tried to get out of the shaking buildings, a local official says.
Sonatullah Taimor, the spokesman for the Takhar provincial governor, says another 30 girls have been taken to the hospital in the provincial capital of Taluqan.

Dr Muhammad Sadiq, the head of emergency services at a government hospital in Pakistan’s northern Swat Valley, told AFP that more than 100 people were also injured.
State-run Pakistani television said at least one person died when the roof of a home collapsed in the eastern city of Kasur.

Buildings in the Pakistani capital Islamabad rattled for at least two minutes, while tremors were also felt in the Afghan capital Kabul.

1- A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.7 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
Tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Chitral, Mardan and nearby areas. The epicentre of the earthquake was 265km NE of Kabul.
According to sources tremors were felt for over one minute. The quake spread panic among people and they rushed out of their homes, however; no loss of life or property has been reported so far.
The earthquake struck in northeastern Afghanistan on Monday, the US Geological Survey said, sending tremors that were felt in India and Pakistan, Reuters reported.
The quake was 196 km deep and centred 82 km southeast of Feyzabad in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountain range. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Aftershocks are still being felt and people have been advised to vacate buildings, Express News reported.
Pakistan and the region, along an active continental plate boundary, is often hit by earthquakes. In September 2013, a magnitude-7.7 quake struck Pakistan's Balochistan province, killing at least 376 people. In 2005, the country was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless.

Early reports from Afghanistan and Pakistan say at least 180 people have died. At least 146 deaths have been reported in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas that border Afghanistan, according to district coordination officials. Afghan officials report at least 34 deaths in that country's northeastern provinces.
