UNICEF calls for protection of Rafah as one of most densely populated places on Earth

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Monday that “the people of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Rafah, must be protected.”

AhlulBayt News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Monday that “the people of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Rafah, must be protected.”

The UN organization said, in a statement posted on X, “Rafah, one of the most densely populated places on Earth, now shelters half of Gaza’s population, many of whom have been displaced multiple times by war.”

“They must be protected. They have nowhere safe to go,” the UNICEF’s statement added.

This came in light of the escalating threats to expand the Israeli ground operation in Rafah, adjacent to the border with Egypt, despite mounting regional and international warnings of potential catastrophic repercussions.

The city of Rafah is witnessing significant overcrowding as it houses at least 1.4 million Palestinians including more than a million displaced people who have taken refuge in the city which was claimed a safe zone by the Israeli occupation army.

Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs, most of them women and children, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure and property, according to Palestinian and UN data.
