AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): US Congressmen have said in a letter to US President Joe Biden that they oppose opening a US consulate in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) that serves Palestinians.
Two hundred House Republicans signed onto a letter clarifying that they oppose opening a US consulate in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) that serves Palestinians.
The letter also read that the move would be inconsistent with US law and create "a misguided situation" in which the US would essentially have two separate diplomatic missions in al-Quds, which constitutes an unacceptable, wrong, and shameful move. The signatories also called on the US administration not to push for the implementation of this step.
Weeks ago, “Israel Hayom” newspaper, quoting an informed source, revealed that the tension between "Israel" and the United States, regarding the opening of the US Consulate in occupied East al-Quds, can be attributed to the lack of coordination between Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, on the one hand, and the US administration, on the other.
According to the source, Foreign Minister Lapid pledged to his American counterpart Anthony Blinken opening the US consulate in East occupied al-Quds, explaining that Lapid had pledged, in a phone call, to implement the step shortly after the formation of the government.
