Unity Stressed in Joint Shia-Suni Friday Prayers in Baghdad

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) -  The prayer leader of Sa’dia Al-Umari Mosque in Baghdad underlined the need for unity among Iraqis and an end to disputes among the country’s politicians.Addressing a joint Shia-Sunni Friday prayers on July 12, he warned Iraqi politicians that their disputes have negative effects on the people.He underlined that the Iraqi people pursue unity to rebuild Iraq and that killing and carnage must no longer continue.The cleric said religion is for compassion and fraternity not for killing and destruction, stressing that the killing of all Iraqis, be it Shia, Sunni, or Christian, is Haram (prohibited).He also pointed to the advent of the holy month of Ramadan and said, “God does not need our thirst or hunger but (by ordering us to fast) wants us to learn how to behave ethically toward our neighbors, Muslims and Christians alike.” /129
