Kuwaiti Prime Minister Arrives Baghdad

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah arrived on Wednesday to the capital Baghdad, on an official visit, expected to end the sanctions imposed by the International Security Council on Iraq after Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait more than two decades ago.

“It is scheduled for the Kuwaiti Prime Minister to hold intensive talks with the Iraqi government, to end the pending issues imposed by the Security Council concerning the demarcation of the border as well as invasion and missing compensation,” said an official at the Iraqi government.

It is scheduled also for Jaber to discuss with his counterpart , Nuri al-Maliki Iraq to exit Chapter VII, a goal that the Iraqi government is working to achieve in addition to the remainder of the compensation of Iraq’s invasion to Kuwait, amounting to 11 billion$.

Iraq pledged last week, in a memorandum of understanding signed by Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari and the Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah to protect workers in the demarcation of borders with Kuwait.

The sides agreed to compensate farmers whose land were included into Kuwait and finance a housing project for Iraqis lost their homes after including them within Kuwaiti territory as a result of the demarcation of the border between the two countries after Kuwait pledged efforts to remove Iraq from Chapter VII.

Iraq had paid Kuwait 41 billion $ as war compensation while 11 billion $ remained to be paid to exit of the consequences of Chapter VII in 2015.

Iraq has been able during the last years to implement most of its obligations under Security Council resolutions and the repercussions of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, as one issue remained related to missing persons and war prisoners files as well as Kuwaiti archive and property looted by forces of the former Iraqi regime's occupation of Kuwait in summer of 1990.
