Notable Shiite Professor 'Asfar Rizvi' Gunned Down in Karachi

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Notable professor Asfar Rizvi and his driver were gunned down on Friday night, earlier raising the death toll to five while two bodies were also recovered across the city.

Police said that victim Asfar Rizvi was returning home from his coaching centre when unidentified assailants affiliated to Wahhabi sect attacked their vehicle. Resultantly both the victims sustained multiple bullets wounds and were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where doctor pronounced the death of both the victims. Police suspects that Rizvi was killed over sectarian basis.

Score of victim’s relatives, family members and students also reached the hospital and shouted slogans against the incident and demanded the arrest of culprits. Rizvi was the head of the Dhaka Group of Educational Institutions and served as an honorary secretary of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu Pakistan.

A child was killed and two people were injured during clash between two rival sectarian organisations in Kati Pahari area within the limits of Shara-e-Noor Jahan police station.

According to details, aerial firing broke out in a clash between members of rival sectarian organisations over the dispute of water supply connection in the area. Resultantly, a 12-year-old boy belonging to Shia sect, Iqbal Hussain, sustained bullet injuries. The victim was shifted to ASH where doctor pronounced him dead.

Tension engulfed the area when heirs of the victim took his body home. DSP Chaudhry Liaquat said that as Hussain’s body reached the area, unidentified persons resorted to indiscriminate firing. He further said that bullets also hit and damaged the nearby mosque, causing panic and fear among the rival sectarian members, adding that two people, Arshad and Asghar also got injured during the firing.

A worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was shot dead in a targeted attack at Sachal Goth within the limits of Sachal police station. SHO Munir Marwat said that deceased Ghulam Haider, 35, son of Muhammad Rahim Sindhi, worked at a petrol pump as a security guard.

SHO said that victim was returning to pump accompanied by his manager after withdrawing cash from the nearby bank. It was then when unidentified armed men lying in wait shot and killed the victim and escaped. Marwat added that the victim might have been killed over political basis.

A man was gunned down at Shah Faisal Chowk in Orangi Town within the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar police station. Officials said that victim Asif Akbar, 24, son of Ali Akbar, was shot and killed by two armed riders. Police informed that deceased was a fruit-vendor by profession and the motive behind his killing remains unknown.

Bodies found: Police recovered an unidentified body of a young man from Lines Area. Officials said that the victim was shot multiple times and initial investigation suggests he was killed after being kidnapped. Victim’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

Another young man was found dead near Lal Masjid in Gulbahar area. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. Police officials said that the motive behind the incident could be ascertained after the identification of the victim.
