(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) Foreign Minister of Mauritius Arvin Boolell said here on Saturday that all members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) should adhere to the Movement’s founding principles. "It has to be the long-lasting solution and the theme lasting peace should rule all global governance.”
He said, “There are many cross cutting issues like climate change, financial crisis which have led to hardship in many developing and least developed countries, including small and developing states with unemployment and unfavorable balance of payment. This economic depression is caused by the developed countries and they cannot be held accountable for the crises that we have not engineered.”
He went on to say that NAM members will have to give new figure to organ troika to address conflicts in the regions and to feed into regional organizations which have clear mandate from UN to address conflict issues, for example Syria, Maldives and Madagascar.
The Minister said the Special committee to address the problem of Palestine should be more committed to take up the matter at the UN General Assembly since there will be all those absolute consensus on this for parties to become members of the UN General Assembly.
On climate change, he noted, the several proposals were made and we need to take steps to set up global fund to support countries which will adopt green technologies and resources have to be used to address the mitigation adaptation process and also the issues of transfer of technology have to be looked into in line with the decision taken at the conference of parties.
Boolell went on to say that no country should be denied its inalienable right to use nuclear material for humanitarian and peaceful purposes subject to full compliance and verification policies adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We should strive to have a world free from nuclear weapons.”
To the end of the interview, Boolell commented on areas of Iran-Mauritius cooperation, saying, “We are going to collaborate at the level of regional organizations to address cross-cutting issues like maritime safety, climate change, financial matters, tourism at bilateral level, establish people-to-people contact for cultural exchange and then look up other issues at this stride.”
He expressed satisfaction with Iran’s successful hosting of the meeting of NAM and wished Tehran success in its 3-year NAM presidency. /129
