In August 2011 , Saudi authorities arrested five Shi'a citizens from al-Awwamiyah city in al-Qatif province .

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - In August 2011 , Saudi authorities arrested five Shi'a citizens from al-Awwamiyah city in al-Qatif province .

The detainees were Mortaz al-Arajna , 22 years , an employee at Saudi Aramco , Yousif Al Rabee' , Mohammad al-Majid , Aslam Al Tohaifa , Mosa al-Shaikh and Abdullah Abdul Jabbar .

The detainees were arrested at the check point which was set up at Safwa and al-Awwamiyah cities in al-Qatif province .

The detainees were being held at al- Dammam and al-Khobar prisons .

Mohammad al-Majid was being held at the Department of General Intelligence of al-Awwamiyah.


It is worth to mention that thousands of Saudi Shiites have staged protests in the Eastern province where most of them live to call for lifting of sectarian discrimination , political reforms in Saudi  political system , the Peninsula Shield Force to be withdrawn from Bahrain as well as the release of prisoners held without trial .

The Saudi authorities are still holding for more than 42 Shiites accused of participation of last demonstrations in Qatif
