(AhlulBayt News Agency) - In an interview with PressTV, the opposition leader Saeed al-Shahabi said “the feeling of despair” among the young generation has led to the uprising in Bahrain.
“The young generation feels that they are betrayed,” he said.
Shahabi said one would not expect to see the people of oil rich country's revolt against the government and “open their chests to bullets and tanks.”
“The uprising clearly shows the decades of ignorance by the regime which has led to the outburst of anger among the people, said the opposition leader.
Under such autocratic regime “you really feel inside that it's better to die.”
He concluded that Bahrain's uprising would not stop without major political changes in the country.
Bahrainis, inspired by revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, dubbed last week "the Day of Rage" to express disappointment at the political reforms of the past decade, which have failed to bring prosperity and real change.
The protests, however, took a new turn after the brutal attack on protesters in Manama, which left at least five dead and more than 230 injured on Thursday.
Thousands of pro-democracy protesters later poured into the Pearl Square in capital Manama, occupying the square since Thursday.
