Ahlul Bayt News Agency - ABNA - The Viva Palestina 5 aid convoy, en route to Gaza, has received a warm welcome by Turkish supporters while passing through the Greek border.
The Gaza-bound convoy is now in Istanbul and, unlike its Western counterparts; Turkish media has been covering its journey from the outset.
The Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which organized the Freedom Flotilla convoy to Gaza a few months ago, was also there to greet the convoy.
"We will have 300-400 vehicles and more than 10 million dollars of medical aid," Ron McKay from the Viva Palestina said on Monday.
"Without the help of the world, Israel will continue with the backing of America to bomb and to shoot and to kill innocent people and to starve the farmers" of Palestine, said one of the activists.
Part of the aid convoy set out from London on September 18 with more vehicles joining it from countries along the way.
On May 31, a similar Turkish-backed aid convoy Freedom Flotilla, which was seeking to deliver aid to Gazans, was stormed by Israeli commandos.
The assault, which took place in international waters, claimed the lives of nine Turkish human rights activists. The convoy is scheduled to reach its final destination to the coastal sliver in the next few weeks.
Gaza's 1.5 million residents have been living under a crippling Israeli siege since 2006, depriving them of food, fuel and other basic necessities.
