Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), Holy city of Qom, Iran -- According to Howza news center, Benyamin Urvel, Hadith expert and member of Higher Council of Religious Affairs in Turkey’s Dianat Organization, addressed the seminar noting that Hadith sciences have been studied in Turkey during three periods since 1924.
“In 1924, a theology faculty was established where Hadith sciences were studied, but soon it was unfortunately closed as a result of political disputes. The second period of such studies started in 1933, when outstanding works were published by Kamel Miras and Ahmad Mo’een. Faculty of Theology of Ankara University was also opened in this period,” he said.
“1982 was the beginning of the third period of Hadith studies which continues to this day and now we can witness that former religious schools are turned into Islamic faculties and colleges.”
Noting that Hadith studies were formally permitted following the elimination of political obstacles in this period, he said, “It is considered the most important and influential period of Hadith studies in Turkey in which a number of valuable works have been published by Turkish researchers and scholars.”
