Immutable Divine Law in Contemporary Battle of Ahzab

According to the verses of Surahs al-Fat’h and al-Ahzab of the Holy Quran, the Almighty God has guaranteed that whenever the enemy launches aggression and the front of truth remains steadfast, the retreat and defeat of the aggressor become an inevitable and unalterable outcome.

AhlulBayt News Agency:  According to the verses of Surahs al-Fat’h and al-Ahzab of the Holy Quran, the Almighty God has guaranteed that whenever the enemy launches aggression and the front of truth remains steadfast, the retreat and defeat of the aggressor become an inevitable and unalterable outcome.

This divine Sunnah (law) not only extinguishes the seeds of despair in the hearts of believers but also transforms the shock of losing their leaders into a stronger faith and a conscious submission to God’s will.

Enemy’s Retreat in Battle: A Definite Divine Promise in Surah al-Fat’h

Following the aggression of the Zionist-American regime and the martyrdom of the wise leader of the Islamic Revolution, a series of reflections have been offered to explain the current situation based on the principles of the Quran. The sixth of these reflections is presented here:

The Noble Quran states in Verse 22 of Surat al-Fat’h: “And if those who disbelieve fought you, they would certainly turn their backs [in flight]; then they would find no protector and no helper.”

The following verse declares: “[Such is] the established way of Allah which has occurred before, and never will you find in the way of Allah any change.”

The “Divine Law” (Sunnat Allah) means absolute certainty — a universal and continuous principle. As emphasized in the second verse, the divine law never changes. Thus, the Almighty assures us: if the enemy attacks and you do not retreat, the divine law dictates that they will certainly be forced to withdraw. This rule applies to all battles throughout history.

The martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution explained that if we are the ones who initiate the attack, the divine law does not guarantee victory — divine help may come, but a decisive conquest is not assured. However, if the enemy initiates aggression, this divine law is enacted. The expression is also precise: it does not say that the enemy is “defeated,” but rather that they turn their backs and retreat.

During the Battle of the Confederates (Ahzab), when the believers saw the enemy forces united against them, they said:

“This is what God and His Messenger promised us; and God and His Messenger spoke the truth.”

And the Quran continues: “And it only increased them in faith and submission.” (Verse 22 of Surah Al-Ahzab)

Therefore, in such circumstances, the immutable divine law ensures the enemy’s retreat when the believers stand firm; and the fulfillment of God’s promises deepens the faith of the believers. “It only increased them in faith and submission (to Allah).”
