AhlulBayt News Agency: Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mehdi Qureshi, the Supreme Leader’s Representative in West Azerbaijan and Friday Prayer Leader of Urmia, stressed that Satan is an unseen adversary and that religious scholars must safeguard themselves and the community—Shia, believers, and Muslims—from his influence.
Speaking at the “Pioneers of Religious Propagation” conference in Khoy, he explained that Satan’s main tools are temptation and deception. He noted that Satan and his offspring are not ordinary enemies, urging scholars to strengthen themselves spiritually to resist his influence.
Referring to a sermon of Imam Ali (AS) in Nahj al‑Balagha, Qureshi said some people have taken Satan as their guide and companion, and in return Satan has made them his partners. He described Imam Ali’s metaphor, explaining that Satan plants his influence in their hearts and nurtures his followers through them.
Qureshi added that God has granted Satan a degree of access that allows him to infiltrate human beings. Just as blood and the soul flow through the body, Satan can circulate within a person, influencing their speech, sight, and actions. Therefore, he said, faith, knowledge, and conviction must be fortified.
He emphasized that Qur’anic teachings and narrations require scholars to connect themselves and the people to divine angels. The human soul, he said, is vast and can become a passageway for devils unless scholars help transform society into a place visited by angels instead.
Qureshi noted that part of human existence is linked to the presence of angels. Thus, scholars must ensure that people sit in gatherings accompanied by angels rather than gatherings influenced by Satan.
Citing Imam Sadiq (AS), he explained that certain angels—other than the recording angels—move among people and pause at gatherings where the Ahl al‑Bayt (AS) are remembered. They sit, listen, reflect with the believers, visit their sick, and attend their funerals.
He concluded that distancing oneself from Satan requires encouraging widespread participation in gatherings dedicated to the Ahl al‑Bayt (AS). Such assemblies, he said, bring people into the company of angels. Quoting Imam Sadiq (AS), he added that when a believer stands in prayer, God turns toward him, His mercy envelops him, and angels surround him.
