AhlulBayt News Agency - In hopes of further restricting people's communication with outside its held territories, the ISIS has recently blocked the access to internet for the residents of Mosul.
According to local sources, IS has ordered to the internet service providers in its Iraqi bastion of northern Iraq to shut down the internet for the public.
However, the internet companies have to provide services to specific IS headquarters across the major city, so online activities can be easier monitored by the terrorist group, according to a letter IS has delivered to the Internet service providers in Mosul.
The internet blackout in Mosul comes as the Iraqi forces continue advancing towards the city from southern Mosul areas, hoping to ultimately liberate the stronghold from the extremists.
Such measures are usually being taken to prevent the public from receiving information on the ongoing developments on the frontlines.
IS has previously banned satellite TV after it started a campaign across Mosul to collect receivers.
