Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi welcomed Sunni youth tendency towards Shia Islam and criticized certain religious centers in Egypt and Tunisia which are against this development.
Referring to Al-Azhar University efforts for holding a conference to discuss reasons behind youth tendency towards Shia Islam, he criticized Al-Azhar officials for being sensitive towards new religious interests among Egyptian and Tunisian youth.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi added that both Shias and Sunnis are Muslims and Egyptian and Tunisian officials should not be afraid of Shias but they should be afraid that their youth apostatize.
