Only a week after destroying an ancient temple in the Syrian city of Palmyra, the ISIS militants has destroyed parts of another temple in the UNESCO-listed city, local sources reported on Sunday.
The terrorist group targeted the Roman-era Temple of Bel in Palmyra city –which fell to ISIS in May after battles with Syrian army forces.
“The terrorist group has destroyed parts of Bel temple in an attempt to eliminate the ancient identity of this historic city,” civil rights activist Ahmed Alwan said.
This comes only one week after ISIS militants blew up the ancient temple of Baal Shamin.
The group has targeted archeological sites in Syria and Iraq over the past few months. UNESCO expressed its concerns about ancient ruins that fell to the terrorist group of ISIS.
