Iranian Hajj official stresses importance of impactful Quran recitations

An Iranian Hajj official told members of the country’s Quranic convoy for the 2025 Hajj to pay more attention on performing recitations that touch the hearts of pilgrims.

AhlulBayt News Agency: An Iranian Hajj official told members of the country’s Quranic convoy for the 2025 Hajj to pay more attention on performing recitations that touch the hearts of pilgrims.

“My advice to you is not to look for a perfect recitation before you recite, but to raise your hands in prayer and say, ‘Lord! I have to have an impactful recitation.’ The impact of a Quran recitation is very important and can engage a lot of hearts,” said Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abdol Fattah Navab, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs.

For a successful recitation performance, it is not necessary for all conditions and requirements to be met and the reciters themselves should also be proactive in laying the groundwork and creating the necessary preparations for a good presentation, he stated.

“For example, they should establish a positive and constructive connection with their audience before the recitation.”

It is only through this intimate connection that one can penetrate hearts and have an impact on them, he noted.

“God looks into the hearts, and in this context, paying attention to certain technical aspects, such as recitation rules, is not a priority. Instead, the reciter should establish a meaningful and constructive relationship with the pilgrims. The reciter must first consider that their Quranic session is observed and valued by Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent). Even a brief verbal interaction between a reciter and a pilgrim can have a profound effect and transform their hearts.”

Another important point, he said, is that a Quran reciter should possess knowledge of behavioral science and sociology.

“They must understand people well enough to determine which verses should be recited in specific times and locations. Sometimes, there may be a need to recite verses related to lifestyle, while at other times, reciting verses about pilgrimage might be more appropriate.”

Hojat-ol-Islam Navab noted that among the Hajj pilgrims, there are individuals with low literacy or no education. “For this reason, this pilgrimage has a unique characteristic, and the reciter must be very careful in selecting the verses, choosing those that can create the strongest connection with the listeners.”

Every year millions of Muslims from around the world gather in the Mecca for the annual Hajj.

Iran also sends pilgrims as well as a groups of Quran activists, known as the Noor Quranic Convoy for Hajj.

The members of the delegation hold Quranic programs, including Quran recitation sessions, for the pilgrims in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
