Israel issues new wave of demolition notices east of Abu Dis

Israeli authorities issued 23 new demolition notices east of Abu Dis, adding to a surge in demolitions and evictions recorded in January 2026. Reports show extensive destruction under the “Jerusalem Shield” operation and more than 1,400 Palestinian structures demolished over the past year.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli authorities on Monday issued demolition notices targeting several residential and agricultural structures east of Abu Dis, south of occupied Jerusalem, placing Palestinian families at renewed risk of displacement.

The Jerusalem Governorate reported that Israeli forces delivered 23 demolition notices in the Umm al‑Shuqalib area, threatening dozens of residents with the loss of their homes and sources of livelihood.

According to the Governorate, January 2026 witnessed a sharp rise in Israeli violations, with 62 notices issued for demolition, eviction, or seizure—44 eviction orders, 14 demolition orders, and four seizure decisions.

The report also documented two incidents of agricultural land leveling, along with 70 demolition operations concentrated in the Airport neighborhood under the so‑called “Jerusalem Shield” operation, described as one of the largest collective demolition campaigns in the area.

A separate report from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission revealed that Israeli authorities carried out 538 demolition operations over the past year, destroying 1,400 structures, including 304 inhabited homes, 74 uninhabited buildings, 270 livelihood‑related facilities, and 490 agricultural installations, in addition to issuing demolition notices for 991 more structures.
