Lebanese Sheikh: Ramadan Calls for Unity, Justice, and Support for Gaza

Sheikh Bilal Saeed Shaban describes Ramadan as a month that rebuilds human nature, restores unity, and aligns worship with divine order. He urges Muslims to support Gaza, cultivate true taqwa, and rise above political divisions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Ramadan arrives as a divine opportunity to rebuild the human being upon the pure nature God created, shaping society with a Qur’anic rhythm where acts of worship move in harmony with the universe.

Sheikh Bilal Saeed Shaban, Secretary‑General of Lebanon’s Islamic Tawhid Movement, wrote that Muslims often blame external forces for their weakness, while the real cause lies in internal divisions created by ethnic, sectarian, and personal loyalties that overshadow the essence of religion. He recalled Imam al‑Shafi‘i’s words describing how people blame their era while the true fault lies within themselves.

The Test of Faith: Gaza and the Ramadan Table He reminded believers that while they prepare abundant iftar meals, the Prophet’s warning must be remembered: true faith is absent when one eats while a neighbor goes hungry. Shaban questioned whether fasting can be accepted while the people of Gaza lack water and bread, stressing that supporting them is a religious duty and that true taqwa means sharing hunger and sustenance together.

Ramadan: Rebuilding the Human Being and the World He explained that Ramadan restores humans to their divine nature, aligning worship with cosmic order—fasting with the crescent, prayer with the sun—so that humans move in harmony with creation. The shifting of Ramadan through seasons reflects divine justice, allowing all people to experience fasting in both heat and cold.

The Crescent of Unity Beyond Borders Shaban emphasized that the Ramadan crescent crosses political borders without permission, challenging divisions imposed by colonialism. He argued that the Ummah should unite in sighting the crescent, as fragmented beginnings of fasting contradict the spirit of unity Islam calls for.

Cultivating Taqwa: Divine Oversight Over Human Surveillance He stated that the purpose of fasting is taqwa—an inner awareness that prevents a believer from drinking water alone because they feel God’s gaze. This spiritual discipline, he said, must extend to political and social behavior, guiding individuals to avoid harm and control anger.

The Project of Islam vs. Modern Ignorance Shaban contrasted Islam’s value‑based project with modern materialism, which sacrifices humans for wealth. He said Islam honors women as responsible partners, while Western materialism often reduces them to objects. Ramadan, he added, calls for an economy rooted in generosity rather than exploitation.

Awakening and Unity—The Only Path Forward He wrote that even artificial intelligence identifies Muslim unity as the greatest fear of their enemies. What the Ummah needs most is united hearts, not countless armies. If Muslims rise together as they fast together, oppression would find no place among them. He concluded with a prayer for unity, sincerity, and the liberation of all Muslim lands.
