UNICEF Confirms 37 Palestinian Children Killed in Gaza Despite Ceasefire

UNICEF reports that at least 37 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza since the start of 2026, despite the declared ceasefire. Officials warn that ongoing Israeli violations and the collapse of essential services continue to endanger children.

AhlulBayt News Agency: UNICEF announced that at least 37 Palestinian children have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since the beginning of 2026, highlighting the ongoing dangers facing children despite the declared ceasefire.

In a statement on Friday, Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, described the situation in Gaza as “extremely precarious and deadly” for children, even after the ceasefire that followed Israel’s genocidal war on the besieged enclave.

Beigbeder said children continue to suffer from airstrikes and the collapse of essential services, including health, water, and education systems, noting that 37 child fatalities have been recorded since the start of the year.

He emphasized the urgent need for the ceasefire to hold, warning that repeated violations are prolonging the suffering of Palestinian children.

In January, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder reported that more than 100 Palestinian children—60 boys and 40 girls—had been killed since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, adding that the real number is likely higher due to underreporting.

Elder stressed that life in Gaza remains suffocating and survival uncertain, noting that although bombings and shootings have slowed, they have not stopped.
