AhlulBayt News Agency: Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Radan, the chief commander of the Iranian Police, has said that the Iranian people and officials will defend the Islamic Republic until the last drop of their blood.
“Enemies should realize that we are warriors of Islam, and we will stand firm, ready to give our lives, to protect the [Islamic] Revolution and the sacred system of the Islamic Republic,” the police chief said on Sunday at a meeting of the Law Enforcement Command.
Referring to the recent unrest in Iran, Radan said enemies had attempted to create division between the people and the system by fomenting unrest, but failed to achieve their goal due to the vigilance of the people and the sacrifices of security forces, including the police.
He emphasized the role of the people in defeating what he described as sedition against Iran, noting that the Iranian people have stood by the Islamic Republic for the past 47 years despite various difficulties.
Deadly unrest broke out in Iran on January 8 after foreign-backed groups carried out acts of terrorism across the country, including killing civilians and security forces and damaging public and private property. These acts occurred during protests that began on December 28 over the cost of living, while the Iranian government was holding meetings with representatives of the protesters.
Iran responded to the terrorist incidents on its soil in order to protect security. The United States, however, threatened the country with military action.
