AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that Iran will take all necessary measures to defend its interests, people, and sovereignty in response to recent international developments. He made the statement on Friday via a post on his official X account.
Araqchi revealed that the Iranian Parliament has voted to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) until full guarantees are provided for the safety and security of the country’s nuclear activities.
According to IRNA, he attributed this decision to what he called the “regrettable role” of IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi, whom he accused of obscuring the fact that the Agency had already closed all outstanding issues with Iran a decade ago.
Araqchi further claimed that Grossi’s actions led to the passage of a politically motivated resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors, which he linked to recent unlawful bombings of Iranian nuclear sites by Israel and the United States.
The foreign minister strongly criticized Grossi for failing to explicitly condemn these attacks, calling it a betrayal of his responsibilities under the IAEA’s Statute. Araqchi added that the insistence on visiting bombed Iranian sites under the guise of safeguards inspections was both meaningless and potentially harmful.
He concluded by declaring that Iran holds the IAEA and its director-general accountable for the current situation and will not hesitate to take protective steps in defense of its national rights and security.
