AhlulBayt News Agency - Last night, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a massive offensive in the northern countryside of Al-Sweida, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defensive positions at Tal Dhalfa and Abu Haraat with over 300 well-armed fighters.
The terrorist group decided to conduct this major assault during the twilight hours on Wednesday in order to catch the Syrian Armed Forces off guard.
This decision by ISIS’ command would not change the outcome of the battle as their fighters were overpowered by the Syrian Arab Army’s mounted machine guns.
According to a military source from the 5th Armored Division’s headquarters in Izra’a, ISIS lost a total of 36 fighters on Wednesday night at the villages of Abu Haraat and Tal Dhalfa; this number would include several Jordanian nationals.
ISIS’ losses were enough to make them retreat to Sweida’s northeastern countryside after failing to advance – they would be attacked by the Syrian Air Force just minutes after retreating.
Tal Dhalfa is an important hilltop village that is situated directly east of the Khalkhalah Airbase; if lost, the terrorist group will be within a few hundred meters of the aforementioned military installation.
