AhlulBayt News Agency - On Friday 15th April, the Lebanese Security Forces detained a former (now defected) pilot of the Syrian Arab Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Khaled al-Haloush, in the northeastern Jdaideh-Al-Fakiha area which lies near the Syrian border.
During his interrogation, Al-Haloush revealed that he had illegally entered the country. The defected pilot was then transferred to the relevant judicial authorities.
According to Khaled’s relatives, the former SAA pilot was “on his way from Arsal to Beirut to meet his children before leaving Lebanon.”
Nevertheless, the Lebanese town of Arsal – which is home to many Syrian refugees – has been higly infiltrated by Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State, thereby explaining why the Lebanese Army has continually raided the town’s refugee camps for years.
In mid-May 2015, the Lebanese Army also arrested another Syrian Arab Army (SAA) defector, namely Colonel Walid Ahmad Aydan, in the Lebanese border town of Labweh.
In a similar event, the Lebanese Army arrested another former Syrian officer on charges of “inciting against the Lebanese Army” on Facebook in the southern Lebanese town of Damour back in October, 2014.
