AhlulBayt News Agency - Members of the ISIL terrorist group leaked a new image and fresh information on the leader of the al-Nusra Front rival militant group, Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, in the social media and on the web on Sunday.
The image shows Jolani beside one of his followers in Iraq before the war on Syria started (March 2011). Jolani was then a commander of Al-Qaeda's branch in Iraq and the Levant (Syria), the parent terrorist organization of both the Al-Nusra Front and the ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).
Based on the new information, Jolani is the alias name of Ahmad Hossein Ali al-Shar'e who was born in the Golan Heights in Syria and raised in Damascus. Al-Shar'e studied media at the college for one year and then went to Iraq to join the Al-Qaeda offshoot. Jolani was arrested three months later and then freed after the start of crisis in Syria.
Previous information said that Jolani's real name was Osama al-Abasi al-Wahidi, adding that he was born in Syria's Deir Ezzur province and studied medicine at the University of Damascus.
